The
Walking Stick Maker
Tom has been involved in making things to include functional colonial
period muzzle loader rifles and knives. Utilizing his experience with
rifle stocks, he has translated the stock finishing techniques required
for a fine rifle to the craft of making walking sticks. He highlights
the wood grain with an application of special stains, several coats
of oils, and varnish. The end result is a walking stick that is like
a piece of furniture and a pleasure to display in public. One recent
customer bought a tobacco stick as a present for her boyfriend and says
he takes the stick with him every place he goes—he just loves
it! Tom and his wife Beverly live in Williamsburg, and on one excursion
in Colonial Williamsburg, a group of tourists asked him if he was the
town crier because his walking stick was so unique and beautiful. They
wanted to know where he got it and asked if they could get one.
